The Midnight Pool Party
Lily loved her bedroom at midnight. That's when the magic happened.
Her teddy **bear**, Barnaby, would stretch his fuzzy arms and blink his button eyes. The plastic zombie toy, Zed, would do a silly wobble-dance across the nightstand. And sometimes, when the moonlight spilled through her window just right, it would gather in a shimmering puddle on the floor — a secret moonlight **pool**.
"Tonight," Barnaby whispered in his gruff, gentle voice, "the moon pool is extra special."
Zed did a happy spin. "It sparkles like pixie dust!"
Lily giggled as she tiptoed from her bed. The three of them gathered around the glowing pool. Its surface rippled with silver light, and tiny stars swam inside like curious fish.
"I wish..." Lily hesitated. "I wish we could swim together."
Barnaby squeezed her paw. "Make a wish with your whole heart."
Zed nodded so enthusiastically his green head wobbled. "Yeah! Splash it out loud!"
Lily closed her eyes and whispered her wish. The moon pool pulsed brighter. Suddenly, it grew larger, wider, deeper — a magical swimming hole right in her bedroom!
They all jumped in together.
The water felt like cool giggles. Zed, who usually moved stiff and jerky, discovered he could swim beautifully. His zombie arms became graceful fins. Barnaby doggy-paddled like a fuzzy boat. Lily spun in the starry water, weightless as a dream.
"Look at me!" Zed cheered. "I'm not scary-clumsy anymore!"
Barnaby beamed. "You're a champion swimmer, Zed. The magic shows us who we really are inside."
They played for hours, having races and making starfish wishes. The zombie toy who always felt left out because he was "weird" was now the most graceful swimmer of all.
As dawn approached, the pool began to shrink. They climbed out, dripping moonlight.
"Tomorrow night?" Zed asked hopefully.
"Every night," Lily promised, hugging her friends. "Because you're both magical."
Barnaby and Zed returned to their places as toys, but Lily knew the truth. The magic wasn't in the moon pool. It was in friendship — and believing that everyone, even a wobbly zombie toy, has something wonderful inside.
That night, Lily dreamed of swimming in stars, hand in hand with a bear and a zombie who could really fly.
