The Midnight Pool Party
Lily loved her backyard. Her favorite spot was the swimming pool, where the water sparkled like diamonds under the sun. But on hot summer nights, something magical happened.
One evening, lightning flashed across the sky in brilliant purple zigzags. Lily watched from her window, amazed. The lightning didn't scare her — it made her curious. Where did all that magical energy go?
When the storm passed, Lily tiptoed outside in her bare feet. The pool glowed softly, like it held captured starlight. But she wasn't alone.
A small green figure stood by the palm tree, swaying slightly. It looked a little like a zombie from her storybooks — stitched-up patches, wild grassy hair — but this creature wore a colorful flowered shirt and the biggest smile Lily had ever seen.
"Hello!" the zombie-thing waved. "I'm Zomble. I'm not scary, I'm just DIFFERENT. See?" He did a silly dance that made Lily giggle.
Lily's neighbor Emma appeared through the bushes. "Is that a zombie?" she whispered, eyes wide.
"No!" Lily said firmly. "This is Zomble, and he's our friend."
Zomble clapped his green hands. "Friend! That's my favorite word! Want to see magic?"
He touched the pool water with one stitched finger. Ripples turned into tiny glowing fish that swam in patterns spelling HELLO.
Emma gasped. "That's amazing!"
"Different isn't bad," Lily said, squeezing Zomble's hand. "Different is just... magical."
All summer, they had midnight pool parties with Zomble. He taught them that true friends don't care how you look — they care about how you make each other feel.
And whenever lightning flashed, Lily knew something wonderful was coming.
