The Midnight Pool of Wishes

Lily couldn't sleep. The full moon painted silver stripes across her bedroom floor, and something magical was pulling her toward the backyard. With her golden retriever, **Peanut**, padding softly beside her, she crept outside.

The swimming **pool** looked different tonight. Instead of plain blue water, it shimmered with tiny stars that twinkled like captured fireflies. Lily gasped. **Peanut** barked once — a happy, welcoming sound.

Suddenly, the water rippled. A figure rose from the glowing depths — not a scary monster, but a creature with floppy green skin, stitches holding a smile onto its face, and flowers tucked behind its ears. It was a **zombie**, but not like in the movies. This zombie wore a party hat and held a colorful lollipop.

"Hello!" the zombie said cheerfully. "I'm Zara! I've been waiting 100 years for someone to make a wish with me!"

Lily's eyes widened. "You're a **zombie**? But you're so... friendly!"

"The best kind of zombie!" Zara spun, making the pool water dance with rainbow sparkles. "This is the Wishing Pool. Every full moon, it grants one wish to a brave heart. But I need a friend to help me make it work!"

Lily looked at the majestic **palm** tree swaying gently beside the pool. Its leaves whispered ancient secrets in the night breeze. **Peanut** wagged his tail so hard his whole body wiggled.

"What's your wish?" Lily asked.

Zara's smile faded slightly. "I wish to remember who I was before I became a zombie. I think... I think I was someone's best friend."

Lily knew exactly what to do. She reached into her pocket and pulled out her friendship bracelet — the one her grandma had given her. "Let's wish together!"

Hand in hand (well, hand in green hand), they leaned over the magical water. **Peanut** rested his head on Zara's lap. The **palm** tree dropped a perfect flower into the pool.

"I wish for Zara to find her friend!" Lily shouted.

The water erupted in golden light. When it faded, Zara's green skin had turned warm and brown. The stitches vanished. She looked exactly like Lily's neighbor's grandmother, who had passed away years ago.

"You remembered!" Zara — now Grandma Rose — hugged Lily tight. "The pool kept my spirit safe until someone kind enough came along. Thank you for freeing me!"

Grandma Rose faded into sparkles, but before disappearing completely, she whispered, "True friendship is the most powerful magic of all. Never forget that."

The pool returned to normal, but something had changed. A small flower from the **palm** tree floated on the surface — a reminder of the magical night. **Peanut** licked Lily's cheek, and she realized she had made two friends that night: one who stayed, and one who would always be in her heart.

From then on, every full moon, Lily and **Peanut** visited the pool. And sometimes, just sometimes, the water still twinkled back.
