The Midnight Pool and the Starry Bull

Lily was eight years old and loved adventures. One warm summer night, she couldn't sleep, so she tiptoed outside in her pajamas. Fireflies danced around her like tiny floating stars as she made her way to the old pond behind her house.

But tonight, the pond looked different. The water was glowing with a soft blue light, and ripples moved across it even though there was no wind. Lily leaned closer and gasped - she could see stars swimming in the water! They weren't reflections - they were real stars, glowing and swirling like a galaxy you could dive into.

Without thinking, Lily dipped her toe into the magical water. Instantly, she felt herself being pulled gently downward. But instead of getting wet, she found herself sliding through the water as if it were made of dreams.

She emerged in a beautiful meadow under a sky filled with more stars than she'd ever seen. And there, grazing on sparkling grass, was the most magnificent creature Lily had ever seen. It was a bull, but not like any bull from a farm. His coat was the color of midnight blue, his horns shone like crescent moons, and his eyes were kind and wise.

"Hello, little friend," the bull said, and Lily was surprised to find she could understand him perfectly. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find the magic pool."

"I'm Lily," she whispered, not afraid at all. "Who are you?"

"I'm Orion," the bull replied softly. "I guard the constellation stars during the day while they sleep. But sometimes, one falls into the dream pool, and I need help returning it to the sky."

Orion showed Lily a small, dim star that had fallen near the pool's edge. "This little one got scared during a thunderstorm and fell. Will you help me?"

Lily nodded eagerly. Together, she and Orion carried the frightened star back to the magic pool. The bull lowered his mighty head, and Lily gently placed the star on his nose.

"Ready?" Orion asked. "We'll need to run fast!"

They ran together across the meadow, the star glowing brighter with every step. At the pool's edge, Orion gave a mighty leap, carrying the star upward into the sky. Lily watched in wonder as the star climbed higher and higher, finally twinkling back into its place in the constellation.

"Thank you, friend," Orion said, nuzzling Lily's hand with his soft nose. "You have a kind heart. The stars will always watch over you now."

Lily woke up in her bed the next morning, sunlight streaming through her window. Had it all been a dream? She ran to the pond behind her house, but the water was just ordinary water again.

Then she looked up at the sky and noticed one star twinkling extra brightly, right near the constellation that looked like a bull. Lily smiled, knowing she had made a friend in the most magical way possible.
