The Midnight Orange Spy

orangerunningzombiespy

Tommy was the best spy in the whole neighborhood. At least, that's what he told himself every night when he put on his special spy hat (it was actually his dad's old fishing hat, but Tommy pretended it was invisible). His spy mission tonight was simple: catch the mysterious midnight snack thief.

For three nights, someone had been taking the freshly picked oranges from the kitchen counter. Tommy's mom thought it was raccoons. Tommy knew better. It was a spy from the rival neighborhood, or maybe even a secret agent orange.

That night, Tommy sat by the kitchen window, watching. The moon was bright and full. The house was quiet. Suddenly, something moved by the fruit bowl!

Tommy grabbed his spy magnifying glass and tiptoed closer. What he saw made his eyes pop wide. It wasn't a raccoon. It wasn't a secret agent orange either.

It was a zombie!

But not a scary zombie. This zombie had bright green skin, wore polka-dot pajamas, and was happily munching on an orange. The zombie looked sleepy and kind of cute, actually.

"Excuse me," Tommy whispered, stepping out from his hiding spot. "Are you a real zombie?"

The zombie jumped. Orange juice dripped down its chin. "Oh! You can see me?" It said. "I'm not really a zombie. I'm just very sleepy and moving slowly. My name is Zara, and I'm from the Dream Kingdom."

"The Dream Kingdom?" Tommy asked.

"Yes! Every night, we travel to the human world to collect sweet dreams. The oranges here have the sweetest dreams of all - sunshine and summer days!" Zara yawned. "I'm supposed to be running back before sunrise, but I got hungry."

Tommy thought this was the most amazing thing ever. A real magical creature, right in his kitchen!

"I can help you," Tommy said. "I'm a spy, you know. Spies are good at secret missions."

Zara smiled. "Would you really? I still need to collect three more orange dreams before the sun comes up."

Together, Tommy the spy and Zara the sleepy zombie collected the most perfect orange dreams from the fruit bowl. They worked quickly and quietly, just like real spies.

"Thank you, Tommy," Zara said when they were done. "You're the best helper ever. Here, take this."

She handed him a small, glowing orange seed. "Plant it, and you'll always have sweet dreams."

Tommy watched as Zara faded into the moonlight, running back to her magical kingdom. The next morning, Tommy planted the seed in his backyard. And every night since, he dreams of orange sunshine and midnight adventures with his zombie friend.

Sometimes, the best discoveries happen when you're brave enough to say hello to something unexpected. And Tommy learned that real spies don't just catch thieves - they make friends too.
