The Midnight Magic Hat
Lily loved the old pool in her backyard. But tonight, under silver moonlight, it sparkled like something magical.
She was running to grab her beach towel when something tumbled from the palm tree above. THUMP! A purple hat with silver stars landed at her feet.
"Wow!" Lily whispered. When she put it on, the pool began to glow.ripples of purple and gold danced across the water.
Suddenly, a green figure bubbled up from the deep. Lily gasped—but then giggled. It was a zombie! But not a scary one. This zombie wore rainbow shorts and had flowers in her hair.
"Hello!" said the zombie, whose name was Zinnia. "I've been stuck down there for fifty years!" She did a little dance. "Want to play?"
Lily nodded vigorously.
They played tag around the palm tree, splashed in the magical pool, and had the best adventure ever. Zinnia showed Lily secret treasures—glowing shells, crystals that hummed, and a pearl that whispered stories.
"I was lonely," Zinnia admitted. "Everyone ran away when they saw me. They didn't know zombies just want friends."
Lily took her new friend's hand. "They're scared of what they don't understand. But I know you're kind."
The magic hat twinkled. Zinnia smiled—and suddenly didn't look green anymore. She looked like a regular girl, glowing with happiness.
"Thank you for seeing ME," Zinnia said.
When morning came, Zinnia disappeared back into the pool with a promise to return. The hat turned back into an ordinary purple cap.
But Lily knew better. Whenever she wore it, she'd remember: magic is real, friends come in all shapes, and kindness can break any spell.
She put the hat on her palm tree's lowest branch. "See you soon, Zinnia!" And the pool twinkled back, like a secret wink.
