The Midnight Library's Secret
Lily loved the old library at midnight. That's when the magic happened.
One night, she crept downstairs in her pajamas. Her messy brown hair stuck out in every direction as she tiptoed through the silent shelves. Suddenly, a giant teddy bear waddled out from behind a bookshelf.
"Hello there!" said the bear, adjusting his little glasses. "I'm Barnaby. Want to see something amazing?"
Lily nodded, her eyes wide.
Barnaby led her to the center of the room, where books were floating in the air, stacking themselves into a glowing pyramid. Each book shimmered with rainbow colors.
"This is the Pyramid of Stories," Barnaby whispered. "Every book holds an adventure. But only the bravest readers can enter them."
Suddenly, a small bull with golden horns trotted out. He wore a tiny red cape.
"I'm Bruno!" the bull announced proudly. "And I'm NOT scary. I'm a dancer!" Bruno did a little spin and tapped his hooves.
Lily giggled.
Just then, something green shuffled from the shadows. It looked like a zombie, with ragged clothes and pale skin. Lily gasped.
"Don't be afraid!" said Barnaby. "This is Zola. She's not really a zombie. She's just very, very tired because she stays up every night reading."
Zola yawned, revealing she held a book behind her back. "I'm the guardian of stories," she said sleepily. "I make sure every book gets read."
"But you look so scary," Lily said softly.
"That's just what happens when you never sleep," Zola smiled. "I forgot how to take care of myself."
Lily had an idea. "I'll help you read the books! Then you can rest."
So every midnight after that, Lily visited her magical friends. She read stories to Zola while the bull danced, Barnaby made cocoa, and the pyramid of books glowed brighter.
Lily learned something important: Things aren't always what they seem. The scary zombie just needed a friend. The bull was a dancer, not a fighter. And even a messy-haired girl could be the hero of her own story.
That's the magic of the library—and of friendship.
