The Midnight Fox Game
Young Lily loved baseball more than anything, but she was too small to make the team. Every evening, she sat by her window, tossing her ball up and catching it, wishing she could play.
One moonlit night, she heard a strange sound coming from the forest behind her house. *Thwack!* A baseball hit a tree. Lily tiptoed outside to investigate.
What she saw made her gasp!
A fox with fur like autumn leaves stood on two paws, holding a baseball bat. Around him, raccoons, rabbits, and even a serious-looking owl formed teams. They were playing baseball!
The fox spotted Lily watching from the bushes. "You're spying on us!" he said with a grin.
"I'm sorry," Lily whispered. "I've never seen a fox play baseball before."
"I'm Felix," said the fox, tossing her the ball. "And tonight, you're the first human ever to join the Midnight League."
Lily couldn't believe it! She played until dawn, learning that size doesn't matter—only heart and teamwork do.
The next day at school, Lily hit her first home run. Her classmates were amazed!
"That fox taught me everything," she said with a secret smile.
From then on, Lily visited her forest friends every night. And sometimes, if you look carefully at the edge of the woods, you might still see them playing—children and animals together, under the starlight, where the best games are the ones that include everyone.
