The Midnight Bull's Secret Game
Benny loved baseball more than anything in the world. Every evening, he'd practice hitting in his backyard, dreaming of becoming a real baseball player. But his baseballs kept disappearing over the fence into old Mr. Grumble's meadow.
One night, Benny decided to sneak over and find his lost baseballs. Being a spy was exciting! He crept through the tall grass like a detective, his heart thumping with adventure.
Suddenly, he saw something amazing. A magnificent bull was standing in the moonlight, but this wasn't any ordinary bull. His coat sparkled like he'd been dipped in stardust, and his horns glowed softly.
"Looking for these?" The bull's voice was deep and kind. He gestured to a pile of baseballs arranged in a perfect circle.
Benny's eyes went wide. "You can talk!"
"I can do more than talk," the bull smiled mysteriously. "I'm Barnaby, guardian of the Star Field. Want to see what I do with your baseballs?"
Barnaby tossed a baseball into the air, but instead of catching it, he touched it with his glowing horn. The baseball transformed into a shimmering star that floated up into the sky!
"Every night," Barnaby explained, "I collect lost things—baseballs, frisbees, kites—and turn them into stars for children to wish upon. The more you practice with love, the brighter the star becomes."
Benny watched in wonder as his baseballs became constellations. "Can I help?"
"Only if you promise something," Barnaby said gently. "Play baseball not just to win, but because you love it. That's what makes the brightest stars."
From that night on, Benny became Barnaby's secret spy. He'd watch from the fence as the magical bull turned lost toys into stars. And every time Benny stepped up to the plate, he remembered: the real magic wasn't in hitting home runs—it was in playing with joy in his heart.
That's why, if you look closely at the night sky, you might see a constellation shaped like a baseball mitt. That's Benny and Barnaby's friendship, shining forever.
