The Midnight Bull's Secret
Leo lay by the edge of the pool, his toes dipped in the cool water. It was a hot summer night, and stars twinkled above like tiny fireflies. Grandma had told him stories about the old stone bull statue that sat by the garden gate, but Leo had never believed them.
"Magic only happens when you're not looking," she'd say with a wink.
At midnight, Leo heard something—snorting. A deep, rumbling sound. He sat up, heart beating fast. The stone bull was moving! Its stone eyes glowed golden, and it shook its massive head.
"Come, Leo," the bull spoke in a voice like thunder wrapped in velvet. "The underwater kingdom awaits."
Leo grabbed his floaties, but the bull laughed. "No need for those! Tonight, you'll be swimming like a fish!"
The bull stepped into the pool. But instead of splashing, the water turned into a swirling rainbow portal. The bull dove in, and without thinking, Leo followed.
Suddenly, they were underwater, but Leo could breathe! Fish with scales like jewels darted around them. The bull was glowing too, leading Leo deeper into a magical coral kingdom.
"I am Toro," the bull said. "Guardian of the Pool Dreams. Once a year, I choose one brave child to visit my world."
They spent what felt like hours dancing with dolphins and racing sea turtles. Toro showed Leo caves filled with ancient treasures and glowing plants that sang when touched.
"Time to go," Toro said finally. "But remember—courage isn't about not being scared. It's about doing brave things even when your knees shake."
The next morning, Leo woke up in his bed. Was it all a dream? He ran to the pool. The stone bull sat frozen by the gate. But in Leo's pocket, he found something—a small shell that hummed with soft music whenever he held it.
Grandma smiled when Leo showed her. "The bull chose well," she whispered.
That day, Leo spent hours running around the pool, imagining the magical world beneath its surface. And every night after, he left a small treat by the stone bull, just in case Toro was hungry for another adventure.
From then on, Leo never feared diving into the unknown. After all, he knew that sometimes, the most magical adventures begin with a single brave splash.
