The Midnight Bull's Garden

spinachbullrunning

Mia hated spinach. Every dinner, her grandmother would say, "Eat your greens, little moonbeam! The spinach in our garden is special." But Mia just pushed it around her plate.

One night, curious noises drew her to the garden window. Through the moonlit mist, she saw something impossible—a enormous white bull with a coat that shimmered like starlight, trotting between the vegetable rows. The bull wasn't eating the spinach. He was... tucking the plants in with his nose, as if saying goodnight.

Mia's heart began running faster than her feet. She tiptoed outside, fascinated. The bull turned, and instead of scary horns, he had mossy antlers that glowed softly. He didn't run away. He blinked gentle eyes the color of morning dew.

"I'm Barnaby," the bull spoke in a voice like rustling leaves. "I've watched you push away my spinach for weeks."

"Your spinach?" Mia gasped.

Barnaby explained: Long ago, a witch cast a spell turning him into a garden guardian. Only when someone truly appreciated his spinach—ate it with joy and wonder—would he be free. But every child had refused.

Mia's cheeks burned. All this time, she'd judged the bull as frightening and the spinach as yucky without really trying either one.

"Would you... like to try it with me?" Mia whispered.

Together, they harvested the tenderest leaves. Barnaby showed her how the spinach sparkled with tiny magic lights. When Mia tasted it, flavors danced—strawberry sunshine, raindrop mint, chocolate breeze! It was the most wonderful thing she'd ever eaten.

Golden light swirled around them. Barnaby transformed into a tall, wise gardener with moss-green eyes. "Thank you for seeing beyond appearances, little one."

Now Mia runs to the garden every sunset, where she and Barnaby grow enchanted vegetables together. She learned that magic lives in the most unexpected places—and sometimes, the scariest things become the best friends, if only you're brave enough to try.
