The Midnight Bull's Baseball Game

Ten-year-old Leo stared at his dinner plate. The green pile of spinach looked like a miniature mountain he didn't want to climb. But his grandmother smiled gently. "Try it, Leo. It might give you magic powers." Leo made a face but took a tiny nibble. Something strange sparkled on his tongue – like lightning caught in a leaf.

That night, Leo heard a *thump-thump-thump* coming from his toy chest. He peeked under the lid and gasped. His wooden toy bull, normally still and silent, was twitching its painted horns. Leo reached out, and the bull blinked its glass eyes!

"Psst!" whispered the bull. "I'm Ferdinand. And you're the first human to eat the Enchanted Spinach in seventy years!" The bull climbed out of the chest, his wooden joints creaking like old floorboards. "That spinach gave you the Sight – the power to see magic!"

Ferdinand led Leo to the backyard garden, where moonlight made everything glow silver. "Watch this," said the bull. He tapped his hoof, and suddenly the garden vegetables came alive! Carrots became tiny players, lettuce leaves formed bases, and a baseball appeared – actually a round, polished tomato.

"Want to play?" Ferdinand asked. Leo nodded, his heart racing with excitement. The midnight baseball game was the most magical thing he'd ever seen. Carrots slid into home plate. Cucumbers swung their vine-bats. Spinach leaves rooted from the dirt, cheering.

When Leo scored the winning run, all the vegetables danced. Ferdinand beamed. "You see? Even the things we think we won't like – like spinach – can be the beginning of wonderful adventures. Sometimes the bravest thing is trying something new."

The next morning, Leo's grandmother noticed something different. Her usually picky eater asked for seconds on spinach. And under his bed, his wooden bull wore a tiny baseball cap made from a spinach leaf, both of them keeping a wonderful secret – magic is everywhere, especially in the things we're afraid to try.
