The Midnight Bear's Secret
Lily loved storms. When the sky flashed with lightning, she would press her nose against the window, counting the seconds until thunder rumbled like a giant tummy. But tonight, the lightning flashed differently—purple and green, swirling like magic sparkles.
Her golden dog, Barnaby, whimpered and pawed at the back door. Something called to them from beyond the garden wall. Lily grabbed her raincoat and Barnaby's leash, and together they slipped into the rainy night.
They were running through wet grass when Lily saw it—a massive bear with fur that shimmered like moonlight, standing near the old oak tree. Barnaby's tail stopped wagging. He pressed close to Lily's legs.
The bear didn't look scary. It held something glowing in its paws—something that looked suspiciously like a fallen star, still crackling with tiny lightning bolts.
"Should we spy?" Lily whispered. Barnaby sneezed.
They crept behind a blackberry bush and watched. The bear was gentle, arranging the little star pieces into a beautiful pattern. Then it noticed them.
Lily's heart thumped. But the bear only smiled—or at least, its eyes crinkled kindly. It beckoned with one giant paw.
Barnaby, surprisingly brave, trotted forward. Lily followed. The bear placed the smallest piece of star into Barnaby's fur, where it glowed like a tiny nightlight. Then it pressed a glowing piece into Lily's palm.
"Friends help collect what falls," the bear's voice rumbled, soft as distant thunder. "The sky loses its beautiful things. My job is finding them."
All night, they worked together, gathering star pieces while lightning painted the sky in purple and green. When morning came, the bear hugged them with furry arms and disappeared into the sunrise mist.
Now, whenever storms come, Lily and Barnaby watch for lightning. They know the bear is out there, catching fallen stars. And they know that sometimes, the things that seem scary at first might just be lonely friends waiting to be found.
Lily keeps her star piece in a jar on her nightstand. It glows softly, reminding her:勇敢な心が友達を見つける (A brave heart finds friends everywhere).
