The Midnight Baseball Spy

Ten-year-old Emma loved baseball more than anything. Every Saturday, she'd grab her glove and run to the field behind her house. But one evening, she noticed something strange—a large bull grazing peacefully near the outfield fence.

"That's odd," Emma whispered. "Bulls don't usually hang out near baseball fields."

The next night, Emma crept back to the field, feeling like a spy on a secret mission. She hid behind the bleachers and watched. To her amazement, the bull returned! But this time, something magical happened.

The bull picked up a forgotten baseball in its mouth and trotted to home plate. With a gentle toss, the ball rolled perfectly toward the pitcher's mound. Then the bull did something incredible—it stood on hind legs and caught the ball in its teeth!

Emma gasped. "You can play baseball!"

The bull blinked and looked at her with kind, intelligent eyes. "I've been watching your games for years," the bull said softly. "I'm Benny, and I'm the guardian of this field. At night, I make sure everything stays perfect for tomorrow's games."

"But why be secret about it?" Emma asked.

Benny smiled. "Magic works best when you keep it special. Would you like to be my spy partner? We can make sure every child has a perfect game."

Emma's eyes widened. "Yes!"

Every night after that, Emma and Benny would meet at the field. They'd fix dugout leaks, prepare perfect base paths, and even plant wildflowers in the outfield. Emma became the best baseball spy in the world.

One day, Emma noticed a new kid sitting alone during practice, looking sad. She remembered what Benny taught her—that true magic was helping others.

"Hey," Emma said, "want to play? Our team could use someone who's willing to learn."

The boy's face lit up. That night, Emma told Benny about her new friend.

"You're the best spy ever," Benny said. "Because the best secret missions are the ones that make people happy."

Emma realized that friendship and kindness were the most magical things of all.
