The Midnight Baseball Miracle

Leo loved baseball more than anything. But he was the smallest kid on the team, always picked last for games. One rainy night, while rummaging through the attic for something to do, he found a strange glowing bottle labeled 'Vitamin Z.'

CRACK! BOOM!

Lightning flashed outside his window, shaking the whole house. As the thunder rumbled, the vitamin bottle began to glow brighter and brighter. Suddenly, Leo's old zombie toy — a ragged doll named Zed he'd forgotten years ago — started twitching.

'Hello there!' Zed said, sitting up and tipping his crooked hat. 'That lightning must have been magical!'

Leo couldn't believe it. His toy was alive!

'Can you really talk?' Leo asked.

'And play baseball!' Zed grinned, revealing missing teeth. 'I've watched every game from your shelf. I know all the pitches.'

All night long, while the rain pattered against the roof, Leo and Zed played catch in the hallway. Zed moved clumsily at first, tripping over his own feet. But with each throw, he grew stronger. The vitamin's glow seemed to give him special energy.

'You're getting better!' Leo cheered. Zed beamed.

By dawn, Zed could hit every pitch Leo threw. They high-fived as the sun peeked through the window. But as morning light filled the room, Zed began to fade.

'Thank you, Leo,' Zed whispered, turning back into an ordinary toy. 'You believed in me. Now believe in yourself.'

At tryouts the next day, Leo stepped up to the plate, remembering Zed's words. He swung with all his might — and hit the ball right over the fence! His teammates cheered, lifting him onto their shoulders.

That night, Leo placed the vitamin bottle next to Zed on his shelf. Sometimes, he thought he saw Zed wink. Leo had learned that magic comes in unexpected packages, and that believing in yourself — and your friends — is the greatest power of all.
