The Midnight Baseball Game
Leo loved his orange baseball. It wasn't a normal ball – his grandma had given it a magical spark that made it glow in the dark. Every night, he practiced pitching in his backyard under the stars.
One evening, Leo heard a snort behind the oak tree. A huge bull stepped out! But this wasn't scary – the bull wore a tiny black hat and carried a magnifying glass. "I'm Barnaby," whispered the bull. "I'm a spy for the Midnight Club. We've been watching you throw that magical ball."
Leo's eyes widened. "You can talk?"
"Only during the magical midnight hour," Barnaby said, checking his watch. "And you're invited to play in the Greatest Game Ever. But first – meet your teammate."
From the shadows trotted a small, dusty toy figure. "This is Zed. He's a zombie, but don't worry – he's the friendliest zombie you'll ever meet. He just wants to play baseball."
Zed waved his plastic arm happily. "Brains? No – BASEBALL!"
Leo giggled. He'd played with toy zombies before, but never one that came to life!
Barnaby led them through a shimmering portal in the garden fence. On the other side was a glowing baseball field where the players were talking animals, toys, and even some stars that had fallen from the sky.
"Here's what makes this game special," Barnaby explained. "The winning team isn't the one with the most runs. It's the team that shows the most heart, helps their teammates, and has the most fun."
Leo played his best game ever. When Zed's plastic arm fell off trying to catch a ball, Leo helped snap it back on. When a squirrel teammate was afraid to bat, Leo cheered the loudest. When Barnaby got tired, Leo let the bull rest on the team bench.
The orange ball glowed brighter with every kind act.
At midnight, the game ended. Leo's team hadn't scored the most runs, but Barnaby raised Leo's hand high. "Tonight's champion! Because true champions lift others up."
As the portal faded, Leo tucked Zed into his toy box and gave Barnaby's nose a pat. He knew tomorrow night, they'd all be back for another magical game – where kindness was the real winning score.
