The Midnight Baseball Game
Toby was a lonely boy who loved to look at the stars from his window. One night, his orange cat Whiskers tapped his paw on the glass.
"Come outside," Whiskers meowed, and to Toby's surprise, he could understand him!
The cat led Toby through the moonlit forest until they reached a clearing where a golden pyramid glowed. Inside sat Barnaby, a friendly brown bear with a kind smile.
"Welcome to the Midnight Baseball Game!" Barnaby rumbled happily. "Tonight, you're our special guest."
The bear handed Toby a magical baseball—but it wasn't ordinary. It sparkled and shimmered, then transformed into a tiny goldfish!
"This is Finley," Barnaby explained. "He's our special baseball. Every time we throw him, he grants one wish to whoever catches him—but only if they promise to share their joy with someone lonely."
Toby watched in wonder as Finny swam through the air, leaving trails of rainbow light. Barnaby threw the fish-goldfish high. Toby jumped and caught it gently in his hands.
"I wish," Toby whispered, "that every lonely child could find a magical friend like I found tonight."
Finley glowed brighter than ever. Soon, glowing pyramids appeared all across the sky, and Toby could see other children playing baseball with bears, cats, and all sorts of magical friends who had been waiting for someone to believe in them.
"The magic was always there," Whiskers purred. "We just needed someone with a big enough heart to see it."
That night, Toby learned that the best magic isn't in wishes—it's in friendship, kindness, and sharing joy with others. And every night since, when the moon is bright, you can still see him playing baseball under the stars with Barnaby, Whiskers, and Finley the goldfish, welcoming new friends to their magical game.
