The Midnight Baseball Game
Luna the fox sat by the old wooden fence, her orange fur glowing in the moonlight. She watched as Max the cat trotted across the grass, his tail held high like a flag.
"Tonight's the night," Max whispered excitedly. "The Full Moon Baseball Game!"
Luna's ears perked up. Every year, when the moon was round and bright like a giant pearl, all the animals gathered at the old field for the most magical game of baseball anyone had ever seen.
But there was a problem. Big Bruno the bull wanted to play too, but everyone was afraid of his size. "I'll step on the ball," Bruno said sadly, lowering his massive head. "I'll just watch from the hill."
Luna and Max exchanged glances. They knew what it felt like to be left out.
"Wait!" Luna called. "Bruno, you can be the umpire! You're big enough to see everything, and your loud voice means everyone will hear your calls!"
Bruno's eyes widened. "Really? You think I can do it?"
"We KNOW you can," Max purred confidently.
As the game began, something magical happened. From the shadows emerged a small, shuffling creature wrapped in old bandages. It was Zed the zombie - but not a scary kind. Zed was a magical zombie who had been awakened by moonlight years ago, and all he wanted was to play.
The other animals gasped. But Luna stepped forward. "Zed can be on my team! Look at those slow, steady hands - perfect for catching!"
And she was right. Zed moved slowly but never missed a catch. Bruno called every play fairly, his voice booming like gentle thunder. Max ran so fast he became a blur of gray, and Luna outsmarted everyone with her clever tricks.
When the game ended, nobody remembered who won. They only remembered how Big Bruno found his place, how Zed the zombie made friends, and how Luna the fox and Max the cat had taught everyone something important:
Everyone belongs in the game.
