The Midnight Baseball Game

Leo lay in bed, staring at his baseball glove on the shelf. Tomorrow was the big game, and he kept missing catches during practice. He wished he could play right now.

Suddenly, his teddy bear – named Barnaby – twitched his fuzzy brown ear.

"I could help you practice," whispered Barnaby. "But we must be quiet."

Leo's eyes went wide. "You can talk?"

"Only at midnight," Barnaby said, climbing down from the bed. "And I'm not the only one."

From the toy chest, a plastic bull named Thunder trotted out on sturdy legs. His red plastic eyes glowed softly.

"I've been waiting for this!" Thunder snorted playfully. "I'll pitch. My fastballs are LEGENDARY."

From the corner wobbled a zombie action figure – Zombot the Destroyer – moving in that classic slow, funny zombie way. "Brraaaiiils... I mean, pllaayy baaall..."

"Zombot will be our umpire," Barnaby decided. "He's very fair. He never rushes calls."

They tiptoed to the backyard under the moonlight. The grass felt magical, sparkly with dew. Thunder pitched perfect, slow-motion throws that Leo could actually see. Barnaby caught every ball with his stuffed paws. Even Zombot made the game fun, making his zombie calls in that hilarious slow voice.

"STRRIIKEE... twwwooo..."

Leo laughed harder than he ever had before. His worries about tomorrow's game melted away. He wasn't just practicing – he was having the most fun he'd ever had playing baseball.

When the moon started fading, Barnaby yawned. "Time to go back, Leo. But remember – baseball isn't about being perfect. It's about loving the game."

Thunder nodded. "And your real friends will help you, just like we did tonight."

Even Zombot offered a slow thumbs-up.

Leo tucked them back into place, his heart full of wonder. The next day at his game, he missed some catches but laughed through them. His teammates smiled. And when he finally made a diving catch in the final inning, he whispered, "That's for you, Barnaby."

That night, the toys winked at him in the moonlight, their secret magic safe once more.
