The Midnight Baseball Game

Luna was no ordinary cat. While other cats slept at night, she slipped through her cat door with a shiny baseball clutched in her paws. Tonight was special — the night of the Great Game.

Her best friend, Toby, waited by the old oak tree, holding a worn glove and grinning. His braces glinted in the moonlight as he waved. "Ready, Luna?"

Luna meowed and dropped the baseball at his feet. But something strange moved in the shadows beyond the field. Groaning sounds echoed through the grass. Toby grabbed Luna's collar, and they hid behind first base.

Then they saw it — a zombie! But this zombie wasn't scary at all. It was a funny, shuffling figure wearing a tattered baseball uniform, holding a glove that was falling apart. The zombie zombie-walked toward home plate, tripped over its own feet, and sat down with a confused grunt.

"It's just lonely," Toby whispered. "Maybe it wants to play too?"

Luna trotted over and rubbed against the zombie's leg. To their surprise, the zombie's face lit up — it wasn't a monster at all, but a magical baseball player who had been waiting for teammates for a hundred years!

That night, under twinkling stars, Luna, Toby, and their new zombie friend played the most wonderful game of baseball ever. The zombie turned out to be the best pitcher in the world, even if he did move a bit slowly. And Luna? She hit the ball so far it landed among the stars, becoming the constellation we now call the Shooting Star.

Sometimes the scariest things turn out to be the best friends — you just have to be brave enough to say hello.
