The Midnight Baseball Game
Luna was a small black cat with eyes like twinkling stars. Every night, she would sit by the fishbowl watching her friend Finbar, a tiny goldfish with scales like sunset clouds.
'I wish you could play with me,' Luna meowed softly.
Finbar swam to the surface. 'I wish I could too, Luna. But I have no legs.'
One magical night, when the moon was full and silver, something wonderful happened. As Luna curled up for a nap, Finbar suddenly floated right out of his bowl!
'Luna! Look!' Finbar cheered. 'The moon gave me magic fins!'
Luna's tail twitched with excitement. 'Let's go on an adventure!'
They snuck out to the backyard where Luna's favorite baseball sat in the grass. Just then, a clever fox named Rusty poked his head through the fence.
'What are you two doing up so late?' Rusty asked with a grin.
'We're going to play!' Luna said. 'Would you like to join us?'
Rusty's eyes brightened. Nobody had ever invited him to play before. Most animals ran away when they saw a fox.
'I'd love to!' Rusty exclaimed.
And so, under the starlit sky, the three friends played the most magical game ever. Finbar used his magic to make the baseball glow and float. Luna batted it with her paws, and Rusty caught it in his mouth. They laughed and played until the stars began to fade.
As dawn approached, Finbar's magic began to fade. 'I must go back to my bowl now,' he said sadly.
'Don't be sad,' Luna purred. 'We'll play again tomorrow night.'
Rusty nodded. 'And every night after that.'
From that night on, the cat, the goldfish, and the fox were the best of friends. They learned something wonderful that night: the best magic of all is friendship, and it doesn't need any moonlight to shine.
Every evening, when other animals slept, you could see them playing in the moonlight — three unlikely friends having the time of their lives.
