The Magical Zombie Goldfish
Leo's eyes filled with tears as he peered into the fishbowl. Goldie, his orange goldfish, floated motionless at the top.
"She's gone, sweetheart," Mom said gently, patting his shoulder.
That afternoon, Leo sat in the garden wearing his favorite blue hat. It had silver stars that glowed when he was sad. Today, they sparkled brighter than ever.
A voice whispered, "Make a wish, Leo."
Leo wished with all his heart: "I want Goldie back!"
The hat began to shimmer. Gold sparkles floated from it into the house. Leo followed—and gasped!
Goldie was swimming again! But something was different. She glowed softly, and tiny bubbles formed words in the water: "THANK YOU."
"Goldie!" Leo cheered. But then he noticed—Goldie was transparent like a ghost, and she could swim right through the glass bowl!
"You're a... zombie goldfish!" Leo whispered. But Goldie didn't look scary. She looked magical.
For weeks, zombie Goldie did amazing things. She could swim through the air! She made water droplets dance! She even helped Leo find lost toys by glowing near them.
But Goldie seemed tired. Her glow grew dimmer each day.
One night, Goldie formed bubbles that said: "I LOVE YOU. TIME TO GO."
Leo cried. "Don't leave!"
Goldie swam through the air and kissed his cheek with a cold, wet nose. Then she faded into sparkles that drifted up to the stars.
Leo's hat stopped glowing. A tiny silver scale appeared on the brim.
He understood now. Goldie had returned to say goodbye properly. The magical hat had given them a second chance.
Leo kept the scale forever. Whenever he felt lonely, he touched it and remembered: some goodbyes aren't endings—they're just love taking a different form.
And sometimes, if he looked very closely at the stars, he could see a tiny orange fish swimming among them, glowing forever.
