The Magical Storm Garden

Lily loved stormy afternoons. When the sky turned dark and rumbles shook the windows, she would curl up with her scruffy golden dog, Barnaby, and watch the rain dance against the glass.

One afternoon, as the first drops began to fall, Lily noticed something strange in the garden. Her little brother's plastic zombie toy, usually hidden among the flowers, seemed to be moving. Very slowly. Like a garden gnome come to life.

"Barnaby, look!" Lily whispered. The dog wagged his tail and let out a small bark.

A bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, turning everything bright purple for one magical second. In that moment, Lily saw it clearly — the zombie wasn't just moving. It was!

She grabbed her yellow raincoat and boots. "Come on, Barnaby!" Together they rushed outside, the dog's paws splashing in puddles as they ran toward the garden.

The toy zombie was leading them somewhere, moving slowly but purposefully toward the backyard pond. Lily followed, her heart racing with excitement.

When they reached the water's edge, something incredible happened. The zombie dipped its plastic hand into the pond, and suddenly the water began to glow. Hundreds of tiny goldfish, usually shy and hidden, swam to the surface, their scales shimmering like rainbow confetti.

The oldest goldfish, a wise one named Finn, spoke in Lily's imagination. "The storm magic wakes us once every year. Thank you for following the zombie guide."

Lily reached out and touched the water. Warmth spread through her fingers, filling her with wonder. The zombie toy gave a little plastic bow, then returned to its place among the marigolds.

"Did you see that, Barnaby?" Lily asked, hugging her wet, happy dog. The storm had passed, leaving behind something even better than a rainbow — a secret magical friendship she would cherish forever.

From that day on, Lily knew magic was real. You just had to be brave enough to follow where wonder leads.
