The Magical Spinach Surprise

Lily loved gardening, but her little patch of dirt behind the old oak tree looked sad and empty. One rainy afternoon, she found something curious—a shiny green packet of seeds labeled "MAGIC SPINACH." Her eyes grew wide as she planted them, wondering what would grow.

That night, something amazing happened. Under the moonlight, the spinach sprouted faster than any plant she had ever seen. The leaves shimmered like emeralds, and when Lily touched them, they sparkled with tiny golden stars!

"Whoa!" she whispered.

Suddenly, the ground near the spinach patch began to rumble. Slowly, a figure rose up—a friendly little ZOMBIE made entirely of vines and leaves! He had a flowerpot on his head and a crooked smile made of twisted roots.

"Hello!" said the zombie, whose name was Sprout. "The magic spinach brought me to life! Will you be my friend?"

Lily wasn't scared at all. Sprout was the kindest zombie anyone could imagine. He couldn't speak very well, but he loved to play.

"Let's play PADEL!" Sprout exclaimed, handing Lily a racket made from a giant leaf and a twig. They played for hours, hitting a ball woven from spider silk. Sprout was terrible at the game—his leafy arms kept getting tangled—but Lily didn't care. She laughed so hard her tummy hurt.

Every day after school, Lily returned to give Sprout fresh water and company. In return, Sprout grew more magical spinach. When Lily ate it, she felt stronger, smarter, and braver.

One day, Lily's little brother Timmy was sad because nobody would play with him. Lily knew just what to do. She gave Timmy some magical spinach and took him to meet Sprout.

Timmy's eyes popped. "A real zombie! Can we be friends?"

Sprout nodded enthusiastically, and soon they were all playing padel together—Lily, Timmy, and their leafy zombie friend.

Lily learned something important that summer: the best friends aren't always the ones you expect. Sometimes, magic comes from the simplest things—a packet of seeds, a kind heart, and someone who needs a friend as much as you do.

And every time she ate spinach from that garden, she remembered Sprout's smile, made entirely of kindness and twisted roots.
