The Magical Orange Pool
Lily loved exploring behind her grandmother's house, especially on warm summer days. One afternoon, she discovered something she'd never noticed before—a hidden pool tucked between ancient oak trees, its water shimmering with an unusual orange glow.
Curious, Lily knelt beside the water. The pool wasn't just orange—it pulsed with light like a tiny sun had fallen asleep beneath the surface. As she leaned closer, ripples formed without any wind, and suddenly, a small creature popped up!
It looked like an orange fish with dragonfly wings, its scales glittering in the dappled sunlight. "Hello!" it said in a voice like tinkling bells. "I'm Pippin, and I've been waiting for you!"
Lily's eyes grew wide. "You can talk?"
"Only to special friends," Pippin replied, fluttering above the water. "This is the Friendship Pool. It turns orange when someone with a kind heart approaches. Would you like to see magic?"
Nodding eagerly, Lily watched as Pippin touched the water with one delicate wing. Instantly, the orange glow spread outward, creating beautiful pictures in the ripples—images of children playing, animals dancing, and stars singing.
"The pool shows us what friendship looks like," Pippin explained. "Every orange ripple represents someone reaching out, someone helping, someone caring."
Lily thought about the new girl at school who always sat alone. "I... I haven't been very friendly to Maya," she admitted quietly. "I was too shy."
Pippin landed gently on her knee. "The pool knew you'd understand. That's why it turned orange for you. True friendship begins with courage—just like the courage you showed by talking to me!"
The next day, Lily sat beside Maya at lunch. As they laughed together, Lily's pocket felt warm. She reached in and found a small orange scale that shimmered with magical light.
Sometimes, she still visits the hidden pool behind her grandmother's house. And sometimes, when she's especially kind to someone, another orange scale appears—tiny reminders that the best magic of all lives inside our hearts.
