The Magical Neighborhood Games

Mia moved to Maple Street on the hottest day of summer. From her window, she watched children laughing and playing in the sparkling blue pool across the street. One girl waved a baseball bat like a magic wand, and another boy bounced a ball against a padel court wall.

"You should come play!" called Leo, a boy with grass-stained knees. "We're having the Magical Neighborhood Games today!"

Mia's heart raced. She'd never been good at sports. What if she messed up? But her mother gently nudged her. "Sometimes the bravest thing is just showing up."

The moment Mia stepped outside, she was swept into a world of wonder. First was the pool relay, where the water felt like liquid sunshine. Then came padel, a game like tennis but friendlier, where everyone cheered even when she missed the ball.

"Now for our favorite game!" Leo announced. "Zombie Tag!" Mia froze. Real zombies? But then she saw the children laughing, pretending to shamble and groan with wide grins. It was just pretend!

Mia ran faster than she ever had before, dodging imaginary zombie hands. She zoomed past the baseball diamond, where someone tossed her a bat. Her first swing—and *whoosh!*—the ball sailed into the blue sky like a shooting star.

"You're a natural!" everyone cheered.

As the sun set, painting the sky pink and gold, Mia realized something magical. The real magic wasn't in the games or even her surprisingly good baseball swing. It was in how Leo and the others had welcomed her, how they made trying new things feel like an adventure instead of a test.

"Same time tomorrow?" Leo asked with a grin.

"Definitely," Mia smiled, already running toward her new friends. She'd come for the games, but she'd stay for the friendship—the most magical game of all.
