The Magical Baseball Cable
Leo loved baseball more than anything. Every Saturday, he and his best friend Mia would play in the park until the sun painted the sky orange. But this Saturday was different.
While searching for a lost ball behind the old oak tree, Leo spotted something strange—a glittering cable half-buried in the dirt. It didn't look like ordinary wires. It hummed with a soft purple glow.
"What is that?" Mia asked, her eyes wide.
Leo's fingers tingled as he touched it. Suddenly, the cable pulsed like a heartbeat. A holographic figure appeared—a friendly zombie with green skin and patchwork clothes, but instead of looking scary, he was juggling three baseballs and grinning.
"Greetings, young friends!" the zombie said in a bubbly voice. "I'm Zed, the Magical Guardian of Games!"
Leo pulled out his mom's iphone to take a picture, but Zed just laughed and turned into sparkles, then reappeared beside them.
"I've been waiting for someone pure of heart to find my special cable," Zed explained. "It connects our world to the Land of Imagination! For three hundred years, I've guarded it, waiting for friends who love play as much as I do."
Zed taught them magical baseball tricks—balls that floated like bubbles, bats that sparkled with rainbow colors, and gloves that caught everything effortlessly. They played until the stars came out, laughing and running.
"Why were you hiding all alone?" Mia asked.
Zed's smile softened. "People were afraid of how I looked. They saw a zombie and ran away, never discovering who I really am."
Leo and Mia exchanged a knowing look. "Our teacher says you should never judge someone by their outside," Leo said firmly. "We're glad we didn't run away."
The three friends made a promise to meet every Saturday. And when Leo's mom asked why her iphone had hundreds of photos of sparkly baseballs and a green friend, Leo just smiled.
"Sometimes, Mom, the best discoveries happen when you're brave enough to look beyond first appearances."
