The Magic Vitamin

Lily was seven years old and had a secret. Her dog Biscuit wasn't an ordinary dog. He could understand everything she said!

One sunny afternoon, Lily's grandmother gave her a small orange bottle. "These are magic vitamins," she whispered, her eyes twinkling like stars. "They make impossible things possible."

Lily stared at the bottle. The vitamin inside sparkled like crushed rainbows.

That night, under the glow of her bedside lamp, Lily held the vitamin in her palm. "I wish Biscuit could swim with me," she whispered, squeezing her eyes tight.

The next morning, something amazing happened. Biscuit ran straight toward the swimming pool in their backyard — something he'd never done before. He jumped right in!

Lily couldn't believe her eyes. Biscuit was swimming! But not just swimming. He was doing cannonballs and flips and even dancing on the water!

"Look at me!" barked Biscuit, and Lily understood him perfectly.

They played all day, swimming and laughing together. But as the sun began to set, Biscuit looked worried.

"What's wrong?" Lily asked.

"The magic is fading," Biscuit said sadly. "Tomorrow I'll just be a regular dog again."

Lily's heart squeezed. She didn't want a magic dog. She wanted her best friend.

"I don't need you to do magic tricks," Lily said, hugging his wet fur. "I just need you."

Biscuit's tail wagged so hard it splashed water everywhere. "That's the real magic," he said. "Friendship."

That night, Lily noticed the vitamin bottle was empty. But she didn't mind. Some magic, she realized, doesn't come from pills or wishes. The best magic comes from loving someone exactly as they are.

Biscuit never swam again, but every summer day, they sat by the pool together, Lily dangling her feet in the cool water and Biscuit resting his head on her lap. And that was better than magic anyway.
