The Magic Storm Puzzle
Lily loved storms. Whenever she saw dark clouds gather, she would press her nose against the window and count the seconds between rumbles and flashes. But today was different.
"It's going to be a big one," her grandmother said, dropping an orange onto the kitchen table. "Stay inside, little one."
Lily nodded, but her mind was already racing with questions. What made storms happen? Where did all that power come from?
Outside, rain began to fall—great sheets of water that turned the garden into a shimmering ocean of greens and browns. Lily held her grandmother's old iphone, which she used for taking pictures of weather. Suddenly, a brilliant flash of lightning split the sky!
CRACK!
Lily jumped, but something strange happened. The phone screen flickered with a soft purple glow, and tiny letters appeared:
"HELP! I'm stuck in your grandmother's palm tree!—Zappy"
"Zappy?" Lily whispered. Could it be... the lightning?
She ran to the window and looked up at the tall palm tree swaying in the wind. Another flash lit up the sky, and this time she saw it—a tiny sparkle caught between two fronds, wiggling like a firefly.
"You're REAL!" Lily cried.
"Yes!" Zappy's voice chimed from the phone. "I slipped and got tangled! Can you help?"
Lily's heart pounded. She could run outside in the storm... but what if she got hurt? Then she remembered something her grandmother always said: true kindness means helping others, even when it's scary.
She grabbed the orange from the table and tied it to a long string. Carefully, she opened the door just enough to reach out. The orange bobbed in the wind, swinging toward the palm tree.
"Grab on!" Lily called.
Zappy stretched and caught the orange's rough skin. With a delighted *zap*, the lightning spark zoomed down the string, right into the phone screen!
"Thank you, Lily!" Zappy chimed. "You were brave and kind. I'll never forget that!"
The phone's purple glow faded, but something amazing appeared on the screen—a perfect lightning bolt, frozen forever. And in the corner, a tiny orange palm tree.
Lily smiled as the storm drifted away, leaving behind a rainbow. Sometimes, she realized, the biggest magic comes from helping friends—even ones made of lightning.
