The Magic Pyramid Hat

Lily was the kind of girl who could make friends anywhere. She chatted with birds, danced with butterflies, and even waved hello to the grumpy old oak tree in her backyard. But her very best friend was her grandpa's old hat — a towering blue pyramid with golden stars stitched around the brim.

"This isn't just any hat," Grandpa had whispered, his eyes twinkling like moonlight on water. "This is a Pyramid of Dreams. It can take you anywhere you wish."

Lily didn't really believe him, until one Tuesday when she put on the hat while thinking about her friend Toby. Toby had moved away three months ago, and she missed him something terrible.

Suddenly, the world began to spin. Stars danced around her. When she opened her eyes, she was standing in a place made entirely of pyramids — golden pyramids, crystal pyramids, pyramids that floated like soap bubbles.

And there, standing beside the biggest pyramid of all, was Toby. He looked older and taller, but he was wearing the same goofy grin.

"Lily!" he shouted. "You came!"

"How did I get here?" Lily asked, spinning around.

"The hat!" Toby pointed. "The Pyramid of Dreams brings friends together. Look!"

Lily looked down at her feet. Surrounding them were little wooden figures — the zombie action figures they used to play with together. They were marching in a circle, dancing and wiggling their arms.

"They're not scary here," Toby laughed. "In the Pyramid of Dreams, even zombies just want to dance!"

Lily and Toby spent what felt like hours exploring pyramid rooms filled with memories — the day they built the world's biggest sandcastle, the time they found a baby bird and helped it back to its nest, every moment they'd shared as friends.

"I have to go soon," Lily said finally, feeling sad.

"Don't worry," Toby said, squeezing her hand. "The hat will always bring us back together. And remember — true friends are never really far apart. They live in your heart, and that's the best pyramid of all."

When Lily opened her eyes, she was back in her room, the blue pyramid hat still on her head. Outside her window, a shooting star streaked across the sky.

She touched the hat's golden stars and smiled. Some friends might live far away, but the magic between them? That would stay with her forever, right there in the Pyramid of Dreams inside her heart.
