The Magic Pool Surprise

Lily never liked spinach. Not even a little bit. So when her grandma served spinach pancakes for breakfast, Lily wrinkled her nose and pretended to be full.

"But these are special," Grandma whispered with a twinkle in her eye. "Made with spinach from the garden behind the magic pool."

Lily's ears perked up. Magic pool? She'd never heard of such a thing!

Grandma pointed toward the woods behind their house. "Follow the path until you find the pool with the water that shimmers like stars. But beware—the pool only shows magic to those who are brave enough to try new things."

Lily grabbed her favorite backpack and set off. The path wound through tall trees until suddenly, there it was—a pool so blue it looked like someone had spilled a piece of the sky right there on the ground. The water sparkled and danced, even though there was no wind.

A tiny green frog hopped onto a rock beside her. "Hello there!" it said in a squeaky voice. "I'm Finnegan. Are you here to see the magic?"

Lily's mouth fell open. A talking frog!

"Yes! But... how does it work?" she asked.

Finnegan hopped closer. "The pool shows you what you need to learn. Jump in with me!"

Lily hesitated. She didn't want to get her favorite red hair wet. But something about the pool felt inviting, like a warm hug on a cold day.

She took a deep breath and jumped. SPLASH!

Instead of water, she landed in the softest grass imaginable. All around her grew enormous spinach plants—taller than trees! Each leaf sparkled with tiny lights.

A gentle voice floated from above. "Spinach gives you strength, courage, and the power to grow. Just like these plants, you become stronger when you try new things."

Lily reached up and touched a glowing leaf. Warmth spread through her fingers. She understood—sometimes the things we think we don't like are exactly what we need.

When she climbed out of the pool, Finnegan was waiting. "Well? Did you learn something?"

Lily nodded, water dripping from her red hair. "I learned that being brave means trying new things, even when you think you won't like them."

"And?" Finnegan prompted.

"And I can't wait to try Grandma's spinach pancakes!"

That night, Lily ate three spinach pancakes. They were delicious. And every time she ate spinach after that, she remembered the magic pool and the lesson it taught her: the bravest thing you can do is try something new.
