The Magic Pool Secret
Lily loved summer days. She loved the sparkling blue water in her backyard pool. She loved splashing and diving until her fingers turned wrinkly. But most of all, she loved playing games on her iPhone.
One hot afternoon, Lily sat on the pool's edge, her eyes glued to her phone screen. She was so absorbed in her game that she didn't notice the tiny ripple in the water nearby.
Suddenly, a splash! Lily's phone slipped from her wet hands and plunged into the pool with a plop.
"Oh no!" Lily cried, reaching desperately. But the water was deep, and her phone sank to the bottom.
Just then, something magical happened. A beautiful orange goldfish swam near the surface. It had shimmering scales like tiny coins and eyes that sparkled like stars.
The goldfish circled around the sinking phone, then—amazingly—nudged it upward! Lily watched in wonder as the fish kept pushing, bubble by bubble, until the phone floated near the surface.
Lily reached in and grabbed her phone. It was fine!
"Thank you!" she whispered. The goldfish bobbed its head as if nodding, then swam in playful circles.
Lily noticed something in the corner of the pool she'd never seen before: a tiny silver key glinting in the sunlight. The goldfish swam toward it, then looked back at Lily.
Curious, Lily reached down and pulled up the key. It was attached to a small waterproof box. Inside was a note: "For the child who puts down their screen to see the magic around them."
The goldfish swam closer, and Lily could almost hear it saying: The real adventure wasn't on her phone at all.
That day, Lily learned something wonderful. The world was full of magic if she just looked up from her screen. She spent the rest of the afternoon swimming with her new goldfish friend, making up stories and watching the clouds.
