The Magic Pool's Secret Friend

Lily loved the summer days when she could visit her grandmother's house in the countryside. But this summer felt different. She had no one to play with, and the other children seemed far away.

One afternoon, while running through the meadow behind the house, Lily discovered something she had never noticed before. A beautiful blue pool nestled among ancient oak trees, its surface sparkling like someone had scattered diamonds across the water.

"Hello!" called a voice from somewhere near the pool.

Lily jumped. She looked around but saw no one.

"Down here!"

A tiny dragon, no bigger than a kitten, poked its head out from behind a mossy stone. Its scales shimmered in shades of blue and green, exactly like the pool water.

"I'm Finn," the dragon said. "And I've been waiting for someone to go swimming with me."

Lily's eyes widened. "You can swim?"

"Watch!" Finn dove into the pool, creating the most beautiful ripples. Lily couldn't resist. She waded in, and soon she was swimming alongside her new friend. The water felt magical, like being wrapped in a cool summer hug.

Every day that week, Lily came back. She and Finn played tag in the water, had races from one end to the other, and shared stories about their lives.

"You're my best friend," Lily said one evening as the sun began to set.

"And you're mine," Finn replied, curling up beside her on the grass. "But I have to tell you something. This pool only appears when someone truly needs a friend. When you go back to school next week, it might disappear."

Lily felt tears in her eyes. "I'll never forget you."

"And I'll never forget you," Finn promised. "Friendship doesn't need magic water to stay real. It stays in your heart."

The next day, when Lily returned to the spot, the pool was gone. But in its place grew wildflowers in every shade of blue and green. And Lily understood—some friendships are magic, no matter what form they take.
