The Magic Pool's Secret Friend
Lily and her golden retriever, Buster, discovered something amazing behind the old oak tree in her backyard. It was a pool, covered with leaves and forgotten for years. Her eyes widened with excitement.
"Mom! Dad! Come look!" Lily called. "There's a pool back here!"
Her parents helped her clean it until the water sparkled like diamonds in the sunlight. Lily couldn't wait to go swimming. That afternoon, she put on her favorite pink swimsuit and jumped right in. Splash! The cool water felt magical somehow, like it held secrets waiting to be discovered.
Buster ran around the edge, barking happily. But suddenly, he froze. His ears perked up, and he growled softly at something floating in the middle of the pool.
Lily followed his gaze. There, drifting slowly toward her, was the strangest creature she had ever seen. It moved like a zombie—slow and wobbly—with green skin and big, gentle eyes. Lily's heart beat fast, but she didn't swim away. Something told her this creature needed help.
"Are you okay?" she whispered.
The zombie-looking thing stopped moving and blinked at her. Then, to her surprise, it smiled! It wasn't a zombie at all. It was a magical water sprite named Zola who had been sleeping in the pool for a hundred years.
"I'm not scary," Zola said softly. "I'm just lonely."
Lily smiled back. "You can be my friend! And Buster's too!"
From that day on, every time Lily went swimming, Zola would appear, and they would play magical games together. The water would glow with rainbow colors, and Buster would splash around, making the happiest barking sounds.
Lily learned that sometimes things that seem scary at first might just be lonely hearts waiting for a friend. The magic pool had brought her the most wonderful friendship she could ever imagine.
