The Magic Pool's Secret
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house, especially the old stone pool in the garden. It wasn't a swimming pool — it was a shallow, crystal-clear pool where rainbow fish swam and water lilies bloomed in every color imaginable.
One sunny afternoon, Lily sat by the pool, watching her grandmother's fluffy white cat, Moonbeam, prowl around the water's edge. Moonbeam was no ordinary cat. Sometimes, Lily swore she could see tiny sparkles dancing in the cat's fur, like captured starlight.
"Don't fall in," Lily called, setting down her iphone on a flat rock. She'd been taking pictures of butterflies to show her class at school.
Suddenly, Moonbeam's ears perked up. The white cat dipped one delicate paw into the pool, and the water began to glow. Ripples of purple and gold spread outward, and Lily gasped as the reflection in the water changed.
Instead of seeing her own face, Lily saw another world — a magical forest where trees grew upside down from floating islands in the sky.
"The pool is a mirror to other places," a whispery voice said. Lily looked down to find Moonbeam looking up at her with wise, amber eyes. "But only those with pure hearts can see through."
Lily's iphone buzzed with a message, but she ignored it. Something more important was happening. "Can I go there?" she asked.
Moonbeam touched the water again. "Not with your body. But with your imagination." The cat purred, a sound like tiny bells. "This pool has connected worlds for thousands of years. Children used to visit magical lands through its surface, until they became too busy with their shiny devices to notice."
Lily looked at her iphone, then back at the magical pool. She realized how much time she spent looking at screens instead of the wonders around her.
"Will you teach me?" Lily asked, setting the iphone aside.
Moonbeam purred louder. "Every day, sit by the pool. Close your eyes. Listen. The magic will find you."
And so Lily did. Each day that summer, she and Moonbeam sat by the pool, discovering enchanted worlds through imagination instead of screens. Lily learned that the best adventures don't require batteries — just an open heart and a curious mind.
The pool's magic had found someone who believed again, and Moonbeam, the magical guardian cat, purred with satisfaction. Some secrets are worth sharing, especially with friends who truly see.
