The Magic Pool's Orange Promise

Lily lived where palm trees danced in the warm breeze. Every summer afternoon, she'd visit the old pool behind her house. The water shimmered like liquid silver under the sun.

One day, something magical happened. As Lily skipped a smooth orange stone across the water's surface, ripples turned into golden sparkles. From the depths emerged not a scary monster, but a friendly creature with green skin and a clumsy smile.

"I'm not a zombie!" the creature said, reading her frightened thoughts. "I'm Zeb, and I've slept in this pool for one hundred years."

Lily's fear melted away. "You're not scary at all. What are you doing here?"

"Waiting for someone brave enough to play," Zeb said, pulling out an old, dusty baseball from behind a rock. "This was my favorite game, before the pool claimed me. Would you play?"

Lily grinned. She loved baseball! She grabbed a fallen palm frond for a bat while Zeb pitched. His throws were wild and magical—sometimes the ball floated, sometimes sparkled, and once it turned into a tiny orange before changing back!

They played until the stars appeared. When it was time for Lily to go home, Zeb pressed something into her hand—a small orange marble that glowed with warmth.

"Friendship is the strongest magic," he whispered. "Whenever you feel lonely, hold this, and I'll feel it too."

Every day after school, Lily returned to the pool. She and Zeb became the best of friends, playing baseball, sharing stories, and discovering that the scariest things sometimes turn out to be the most wonderful surprises.

Lily learned that courage opens doors to friendship, and that magic lives wherever kindness is found. And somewhere, deep in that magical pool, a green-skinned boy smiled, grateful for the girl who looked beyond appearances and saw a friend instead.
