The Magic Pool's Orange Friend

Mia was the smallest girl in her class, with hair as black as midnight. Every summer day, she'd sneak away to the old swimming pool behind her house. The pool hadn't been used in years – the water was still and deep, covered in soft green lily pads.

"One day I'll dive in," Mia whispered, dipping her toes into the cool water.

But Mia couldn't swim. She was afraid.

One sunny afternoon, something extraordinary happened. As Mia leaned over the pool's edge, she saw a ripple. Then another. Suddenly, the water began to shimmer and glow like liquid sunshine.

Out of the magical pool rose a girl about Mia's age, but she was extraordinary – her hair was the color of a bright orange sunset, flowing around her like water itself.

"I'm Coral," the girl said with a giggle that sounded like splashing water. "I live in the magic pool. Want to be my friend?"

Mia nodded, her eyes wide with wonder.

Coral reached out with her orange hair trailing in the water. "The pool shows us our true selves. See?"

She pointed to the water's reflection. Mia gasped – her reflection showed orange hair too!

"My hair isn't orange," Mia whispered.

"But your courage is," Coral said. "Orange is the color of bravery. The magic pool sees what's inside your heart."

Coral taught Mia to swim that afternoon. With each stroke, Mia felt braver. The water cradled her like a gentle hug. Her new friend's orange hair lit up the whole pool, making it sparkle like diamonds.

From that day on, Mia visited Coral every summer. She learned that true friends see the best in you, even when you can't see it yourself. And whenever Mia felt afraid, she'd remember: her heart was orange – brave and bright.

Years later, Mia became a swimming teacher. She'd tell her students about the magic pool and her friend with sunset hair. "Every one of you has something orange inside," she'd say. "Something brave and wonderful. You just have to dive in and find it."

And somewhere, in a magical pool behind an old house, Coral still waited, her orange hair glowing, ready to help another scared child discover their courage.
