The Magic Pool of Dreams
Lily sat by the edge of the pool, dipping her toes into the cool blue water. It was the last day of summer, and she wanted to make it special. Her golden retriever, Max, bounded over with his favorite baseball in his mouth, tail wagging furiously.
"Want to play, Max?" Lily laughed, throwing the ball across the yard. The dog chased after it, barking happily.
Suddenly, something sparkled in the pool. Lily leaned closer. There, floating on the water's surface, was an iPhone—but not like any phone she'd ever seen. It shimmered with rainbow light, almost as if it were made from magic itself.
Curious, Lily reached for it. The moment her fingers touched the screen, the pool water began to glow. "Hello, young friend," a gentle voice echoed from everywhere and nowhere at once. "I've been waiting for someone with a kind heart."
Max returned with the baseball, dropping it in surprise. The phone showed moving pictures—children playing, laughing, and dreaming.
"This is the Pool of Dreams," the voice continued. "Every summer, it chooses one special person to grant a wish. But you must choose wisely."
Lily thought hard. She could wish for anything—to be the best baseball player, to have a million toys, to travel anywhere in the world. But she looked at Max, who was nudging her hand with his wet nose. She thought about her best friend Emma, who had moved away last month and was lonely in her new town.
"I wish," Lily said softly, "that everyone could have a friend like Max. A friend who stays by your side no matter what, who makes you laugh when you're sad, and who loves you just because you're you."
The pool sparkled brighter than ever. Tiny lights floated up from the water, drifting across the sky like fireflies. The phone's screen showed Emma's face, lighting up with surprise as she met a new puppy.
"A beautiful wish," the voice whispered. "Friendship is the greatest magic of all."
The glowing phone dissolved into sparkles, joining the lights dancing in the evening sky. Max licked Lily's cheek, and she knew that somewhere far away, Emma was making a new friend too.
That night, as Lily fell asleep, she understood something wonderful: the best wishes aren't the ones we keep for ourselves—they're the ones we share with the world.
