The Magic Pool in the Storm

Lily loved rainy days. When lightning flashed across the sky, she would press her nose against the window and count the seconds until thunder rumbled. One stormy afternoon, something magical happened in her backyard.

The old swimming pool that had been empty for years suddenly filled with shimmering water. Lily ran outside in her yellow raincoat, and there, floating in the pool, was the most beautiful goldfish she had ever seen. Its scales sparkled like tiny stars.

"Are you lonely?" Lily asked.

The goldfish replied, "I'm waiting for my friend. He's shy."

Suddenly, the ground shook. From behind the garden shed emerged a green figure. Lily gasped—it looked like a zombie! But instead of being scary, this zombie wore glasses and held a book.

"I'm sorry if I frightened you," the zombie said softly. "I'm Zara, and I've been cursed to wander until someone shows me kindness."

Lily wasn't afraid. "Would you like to read stories with me?"

Zara's eyes lit up. "More than anything!"

But as they spoke, the stone sphinx statue in Lily's garden began to glow. Lightning struck nearby, and the sphinx came alive! Her wings spread wide, and her golden eyes gleamed.

"You have shown kindness where others would show fear," the sphinx said. "For this, I grant each of you one wish."

Lily wished for Zara to be free from her curse. The sphinx waved her paw, and Zara transformed into a regular girl, still wearing her glasses.

"My turn!" said Zara. "I wish for Lily to have a friend who loves stories as much as she does."

The sphinx smiled. "Granted." The goldfish leaped from the pool and became a small dragon made of water. "I'll be your friend forever!" the water dragon said.

Lily learned that day that things aren't always what they seem. The scary zombie just needed a friend, the silent goldfish was magical, and the stone sphinx had a heart of gold.

Now, whenever lightning storms come, Lily and her friends gather by the pool, reading stories and having the most wonderful adventures.
