The Magic Pool in the Backyard
Lily loved her backyard more than anything in the world. Her favorite spot was the old swimming pool behind their house, even though it hadn't held water in years. But Lily knew better.
One hot afternoon, while Lily was playing on her iPhone, something magical happened. The phone slipped from her hands and landed right in the center of the empty pool. Lily ran to grab it, but as soon as she stepped into the pool, everything changed.
The cracked concrete shimmered like moonlight. Her long brown hair began to float as if she was underwater. Then, from the deep end, a tiny green creature appeared. He looked like a garden gnome but with sparkly wings.
"Hello, Lily!" he said cheerfully. "I'm Sprout, guardian of the Magic Pool. And I see you've brought us a visitor!" He pointed to her iPhone.
Lily gasped as her phone lit up with rainbow colors instead of its regular screen. "Is this... magic?"
"Absolutely!" Sprout laughed. "You see, this pool connects our world to the Wonder Realm. Your hair is glowing because you're touching magic right now. And that phone? It's showing you what magic sees!"
On her screen, Lily saw amazing creatures: flying fish, singing flowers, and trees that danced. Then Sprout pulled something from behind his back – a bright green plant.
"Spinach!" Lily wrinkled her nose. "I hate spinach."
"Ah, but this isn't ordinary spinach," Sprout explained. "This is Wonder Spinach. One bite gives you the power to see magic everywhere." He sprinkled some into her palm.
Lily tried it – and gasped again! Suddenly, the whole world looked different. The old wooden cable that had lain in the corner of the pool for years was glowing and humming with energy. She could see it was actually a bridge between worlds!
"Every pool has a secret," Sprout whispered. "Most people never look close enough to find them. But you did."
Lily spent the afternoon learning about the magic hiding in ordinary things. When she finally climbed out of the pool, her phone back to normal and Sprout waving goodbye, she knew the world was full of wonder.
That night at dinner, when her mom served spinach, Lily smiled and ate every bite. "Maybe," she thought, "just maybe, this could be Wonder Spinach too."
And somewhere, deep in the Magic Pool, Sprout smiled. He had found someone who believed – and that was the greatest magic of all.
