The Magic Pool in the Attic

Lily discovered the secret on a rainy Tuesday. While searching for her missing cat in the dusty attic, she found a small door hidden behind old boxes. Inside sat a tiny pool, no bigger than a bathtub, filled with sparkling blue water.

The pool had a sign: One Wish Only.

Lily's wild hair always got tangled when she played, and other children sometimes laughed. She wished for perfect, smooth hair that would never mess up.

The water swirled, and a voice echoed, "Your wish is granted!" Her hair became silky and straight.

But something felt wrong. Her friend Mateo, who loved her crazy curls, asked why she looked so different. Her ponytail ribbons kept sliding off. Her hair didn't bounce when she jumped rope. It didn't feel like HERS anymore.

Then Lily's baby brother pulled her favorite hat—a bright red cap with rainbow patches—onto his head. He giggled, and Lily realized something: the hat was special because she'd made it with her grandmother, who had hair just as wild as hers.

Her hair wasn't messy. It was magical, like Grandmother's.

Lily rushed back to the pool. "I want my real hair back!"

The water bubbled. "Why? Everyone wants perfect hair."

"Because my hair makes ME," Lily said. "And it reminds me of someone I love."

Her curls returned, springing up like happy springs.

Mateo grinned. "Much better! Now let's play—you can wear your magic hat and we'll be astronauts!"

Lily learned that wishing for perfection isn't as wonderful as embracing what makes you uniquely yourself. Some things are special just because they're yours.

And sometimes, the best magic is already inside you—tangled up in all the wonderful ways that make you you.
