The Magic Pool in Grammy's Backyard
Lily discovered the secret behind Grammy's old garden shed. It wasn't a pile of leaves like Grammy said. It was a shimmering pool, the water glowing like liquid sapphires under the afternoon sun.
"Hello there!" a voice squeaked.
Lily jumped. Sitting on a mossy stone was the tiniest bear she had ever seen, no bigger than her teddy bear at home. But this bear wore a bright red hat with a silver star pinned right in the center.
"I'm Barnaby," the bear said, tipping his hat. "And you've found the Magic Pool!"
"What makes it magic?" Lily whispered, kneeling beside the water.
"Look," said Barnaby.
Lily gazed into the pool. The water didn't show her reflection. Instead, she saw a forest made entirely of candy canes, then an underwater kingdom where fish played musical instruments.
"The pool shows whatever your heart most wants to see," Barnaby explained. "What do you wish for, Lily?"
Lily thought hard. She pulled out her iPhone—she'd been taking pictures of Grammy's flowers all morning. "I wish my little brother Timmy could see this. He's sick inside and can't come out."
Barnaby's eyes sparkled. "Then that's what shall be!"
The bear stood on his hind legs and began to dance around the pool, his red hat bobbing. The water swirled with rainbow colors. suddenly, an image formed in the pool—Timmy's face, smiling from inside Grammy's house. He could see them through the phone's screen as Lily video-called him!
"Look, Timmy!" Lily cried. "A real magic bear!"
For hours, Lily showed Timmy everything the pool revealed—fairy gardens, dragon playgrounds, cities made of clouds. Barnaby danced and told stories, making both children laugh until their tummies hurt.
When the sun began to set, Barnaby adjusted his hat. "The pool works best when shared," he said wisely. "Magic grows when you give it away."
Lily understood. She hugged the little bear goodbye. "Can I come back tomorrow?"
"Only if you bring someone who needs a little magic," Barnaby winked.
Lily ran back to Grammy's house, her iPhone full of magical videos and her heart full of joy. She couldn't wait to share the magic pool with everyone who needed wonder in their lives—especially Timmy, who was already feeling much better.
Some secrets, Lily learned, are too wonderful to keep. The best magic is the kind you share.
