The Magic Pool Friend
Lily lived in a house with a broken swimming pool in the backyard. The pool hadn't held water for years. It was just a giant empty bowl with cracked blue tiles, perfect for catching rainwater and fireflies.
One starry night, Lily heard a splash. She grabbed her flashlight and peeked over the edge. A small silver fish was flopping in the shallow rainwater at the bottom!
"How did you get here?" Lily whispered.
The fish didn't answer — it couldn't. But suddenly, it began to glow. Soft blue light pulsed from its scales, and the pool transformed! The rainwater turned into a magical swimming world. Flowers bloomed along the cracked tiles. Stars reflected in the water that shouldn't have been deep enough to swim in.
Then, something magical happened. The fish changed! It grew tiny arms and legs, becoming a small shimmering person with sparkly fins instead of feet. This was no ordinary fish — this was Finn, a water sprite!
"Thank you for helping me," Finn said in a voice like gentle ripples. "I was trapped in a puddle miles away. A bird carried me but dropped me here."
Lily's eyes grew wide. "You're MAGIC!"
"And you're kind," Finn smiled. "That's the best kind of magic."
Every night that summer, Lily would visit the pool. Finn showed her amazing things — how to make bubbles that carried wishes to the stars, how to speak to fireflies, how to listen to the moon's soft song. They became the best of friends.
When school started, Finn had to return to his home in the Secret Spring. But before leaving, he gave Lily a small silver scale.
"Keep this," Finn said. "Whenever you need a friend, hold it tight, and I'll hear you. True friendship isn't about being close all the time. It's about carrying each other in your hearts."
Now, whenever Lily holds her silver scale, the pool still glows softly. She learned that magic isn't just about sparkles and transformations — the real magic is kindness, friendship, and never forgetting the wonderful friends who swim into our lives, even for just a little while.
