The Magic Pool Connection
Lily sat by the edge of the old swimming pool in her grandmother's backyard, dipping her toes in the cool water. Beside her, Barnaby the golden retriever whined softly, nudging her hand with his wet nose.
"I know, buddy," Lily whispered. "I wish we could see what's at the bottom, too."
The pool had been drained for years, filled only with rainwater and memories. But today, something glimmered beneath the surface — something orange and bright. A goldfish! How could a goldfish survive in an old pool?
Lily pulled her iPhone from her pocket, wanting to take a picture. But as she tapped the screen, something magical happened. An old charging cable lay near the pool's edge, forgotten from summers ago. Without thinking, Lily plugged her phone into the mysterious cable.
BAM! The water began to glow. The goldfish — now enormous and shimmering like a sunset — swam right up to the surface.
"You found my magic cord!" the goldfish bubbled, his voice sounding like underwater laughter. "I've been waiting for someone kind enough to plug it in."
"You can talk?" Lily gasped.
"Only when someone connects with wonder," the fish replied. "You and your dog have kind hearts. What do you wish for?"
Lily looked at Barnaby, who was now wagging his tail so hard his whole body wiggled. "I wish my grandmother could see this pool beautiful again, full of laughter and joy."
The goldfish smiled — yes, fish can smile! — and swam in a glowing circle. The water transformed from green and murky to crystal clear, sparkling like diamonds.
"The magic was never in the pool," the goldfish said. "The magic was in your heart, ready to believe in something wonderful. Remember: the most beautiful things in life connect us to each other, just like this cable connects worlds."
That summer, the pool filled with children's laughter once more. And sometimes, if you looked closely, you could still see a flash of orange beneath the surface — a little fish reminding everyone that magic is real when you believe in wonder.
