The Magic Pool Beyond the Screen
Lily loved her iphone more than anything. Every day after school, she'd sit on the couch, tapping and swiping through games and videos. The glowing screen was her whole world.
One hot afternoon, her grandmother came to visit. "Come outside, little one!" she called. "I want to show you something magical!"
Lily groaned. "But I'm playing my game!"
"Trust me," her grandmother smiled with a twinkle in her eye. "Some adventures don't need batteries."
Curious, Lily followed her grandmother to the backyard. There, behind the old garden shed, was a secret pool she'd never noticed before. The water sparkled like diamonds in the sunlight, rippling with a mysterious glow.
"This is the Moonwater Pool," her grandmother whispered. "It only appears for children who seek wonder beyond their screens."
Lily stepped closer. The water called to her. But how could she reach the center where a beautiful silver flower floated?
Her grandmother handed her a wooden padel with a carved handle shaped like a dragon. "This belonged to your great-grandfather. It's not just a paddle — it's a magic wand for adventures."
Lily dipped the padel into the water. Whoosh! The water sparkled even brighter, and tiny fish made of rainbow light swam around the wooden paddle. She gently guided herself toward the silver flower.
When she reached it, the flower transformed into a beautiful water fairy! "You chose adventure over screens," the fairy chimed. "That's the bravest choice of all."
The fairy sprinkled magic dust that showed Lily images of real wonders: ocean waves, mountain peaks, rainbows after storms, fireflies dancing in the dark.
"These are the real games," the fairy said. "The world is full of magic if you look up from your screen."
Lily understood. She thanked the fairy and splashed back to shore, her heart full of new wonder.
That evening, Lily didn't reach for her iphone. Instead, she ran outside to catch fireflies, splash in puddles, and watch clouds shape-shift into dragons and castles.
Sometimes, the best adventures are waiting right outside your door — and they never need to be charged.
