The Magic Pool Beyond the Screen

Lila sat by the hotel pool, her eyes glued to her iPhone. She was playing her favorite game, collecting digital stars and coins. Around her, children splashed and laughed. The sun sparkled on the blue water like scattered diamonds.

"Come play!" called a boy with curly hair. "We're playing mermaid treasure hunt!"

Lila shook her head. She was so close to beating this level.

Suddenly, something strange happened. A tiny green lizard scurried up the palm tree beside her, carrying something glittery in its mouth. The lizard dropped the object—it was a small, smooth stone that glowed with rainbow light.

Curious, Lila picked it up. Her iPhone screen flickered. Words appeared: *Follow the magic.*

The stone hummed in her palm, warm and alive. Without thinking, Lila stood up. She followed the lizard as it darted from palm tree to palm tree, circling the pool. Other children noticed and joined her—first the curly-haired boy, then a girl with braids, then twins in matching swimsuits.

The lizard stopped at the pool's edge and dropped another glowing stone into the water. But instead of sinking, the stone floated. Ripples spread outward, forming a rainbow pathway across the water's surface.

"Who wants to explore?" the curly-haired boy asked.

Lila looked at her iPhone. The game waited, pixelated and flat. Then she looked at the rainbow path, shimmering with real magic.

She stepped onto the rainbow. It held her weight! One by one, the children followed. In the center of the pool, they found an underwater garden where fish made of light swam through coral castles. They played for hours, having adventures no game could match.

When the sun began to set, the rainbow path faded. They swam back, tired but happy.

"That was better than any iPhone game," Lila said, smiling.

"The magic was always here," the curly-haired boy said. "You just had to look up from your screen."

That night, Lila's iPhone showed a new message: *Real magic is found with friends. The End.*

She turned off her phone and fell asleep dreaming of rainbow paths and new friends, already planning tomorrow's adventure.
