The Magic Pool Behind the Palm
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house. The backyard was full of secrets, but the best secret was hidden behind the towering palm tree that swayed in the warm breeze.
One sunny afternoon, Lily followed a trail of sparkling butterflies past the palm tree and discovered something she had never seen before—a crystal-clear pool that shimmered like liquid diamonds.
"Hello there!" a tiny voice bubbled up from the water.
Lily peeked over the edge and saw the most beautiful goldfish she had ever imagined. Its scales were orange like sunset, and it had fins like flowing ribbons.
"I'm Goldie!" the goldfish said, splashing happily. "This is the Magic Friendship Pool. It appears only when someone needs a friend."
Lily's eyes widened. "I do need a friend. My family moved here recently, and I haven't made any friends at school yet."
Goldie swam closer. "Making friends is like planting a seed. You have to be patient and kind first. Would you like to see something magical?"
Lily nodded eagerly.
"Touch your palm to the water and make a wish for someone else," Goldie said. "Not for yourself, but for another."
Lily thought carefully. She remembered the new girl in her class who always sat alone at lunch. Lily placed her palm against the cool water and whispered, "I wish Maria would find a friend who loves drawing as much as she does."
The water began to glow softly. Little ripples spread outward, and suddenly, tiny glowing fish swam up from the depths, each one carrying a small picture in its mouth. One fish showed Maria and Lily drawing together under the palm tree. Another showed them laughing and sharing colored pencils.
"Your wish is already coming true," Goldie said with a smile. "Because you wished for kindness, kindness will find you. Tomorrow, bring your sketchbook to school. Maria will be waiting."
The next day, Lily did exactly that. And sure enough, Maria was sitting alone with her own sketchbook. Lily sat beside her, and they spent the whole lunch drawing together.
From then on, Lily visited the magic pool behind the palm tree often. She learned that the best magic of all isn't found in wishes—it's found in being a true friend.
