The Magic Pool Behind the Palm
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's garden, especially on hot summer days. That's when she discovered something wonderful hidden behind the oldest **palm** tree in the yard.
Pushing aside the wide green leaves, Lily gasped. There, shimmering in the sunlight, was a tiny **pool** she had never seen before. The water was crystal clear, and something bright orange flashed beneath the surface.
"Hello there," said a tiny voice.
Lily jumped. A little **goldfish** with scales like sunset clouds floated to the surface. "I'm Finn!" the goldfish bubbled happily. "I've been waiting for a friend like you."
"You can talk?" Lily whispered, her eyes wide.
"Magic pools have magical fish," Finn winked. "Would you like to see something special?"
He swam in a circle, and suddenly the water began to sparkle. From the center of the pool, a tree began to grow—fast! Within seconds, it was heavy with strange orange fruits.
"**Papaya**!" Finn announced proudly. "My favorite fruit. But these are special, Lily. Each one holds a wish for someone else."
Lily's eyes grew wide. "You mean I can wish for anything?"
Finn shook his head. "Not for yourself. That's the secret. The magic only works when you wish for someone else's happiness."
Lily thought hard. Her little brother had been sad about losing his favorite toy. She closed her eyes and made a wish, then plucked a papaya from the tree.
When she gave it to her brother later that day, he found his missing toy inside. His smile was brighter than all the magic in the pool.
From that day on, Lily visited Finn often. She learned that the best magic wasn't in wishes or pools or talking fish—it was in making others happy.
And every summer, behind the palm tree, the magic waited for another kind heart to discover its secret.
