The Magic Pool Behind the Garden
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's backyard. It was full of secrets and wonders, but her favorite spot was behind the old garden shed, where wild vegetables grew taller than her knees.
One sunny afternoon, Lily was hunting for the perfect snack when she spotted the biggest, greenest **spinach** leaf she had ever seen. It shimmered like it was sprinkled with fairy dust. When she reached out to touch it, the leaf unfurled and revealed a tiny door.
"Hello?" she whispered.
The door creaked open, and out hopped the smallest frog she had ever seen, wearing a tiny crown made of flower petals.
"Welcome, Lily!" the frog croaked in a surprisingly squeaky voice. "I'm Prince Ribbit. Would you like to see something magical?"
Lily nodded, her eyes wide with wonder.
Prince Ribbit led her through a hidden path in the spinach patch until they reached a crystal-clear **pool** she had never noticed before. The water glowed with a soft orange light, and tiny fish made of pure sunlight swam beneath the surface.
"This is the Dream Pool," Prince Ribbit explained. "Whatever you imagine appears in the water. But you must be careful — dreams that come from a kind heart create beauty, but selfish dreams can turn the water dark."
Lily thought hard. What should she wish for? A giant castle? All the toys in the world? Then she remembered her little brother Max, who had been sad because he lost his favorite stuffed bear.
She closed her eyes and imagined Max finding his bear, smiling and happy.
Suddenly, the pool's orange glow intensified, and the water swirled into shapes. She saw Max's face lighting up as he discovered his bear under the bed, right where it had been hiding all along.
"That was a beautiful wish," Prince Ribbit said, smiling. "You used magic to help someone else. That's the strongest kind of magic there is."
Lily felt warm inside, happier than if she had wished for a million toys. She realized that the real magic wasn't in the pool at all — it was in kindness.
"Will you come back?" Prince Ribbit asked.
"Every day," Lily promised. "And I'll bring Max something from the garden too. Maybe he'd like some of this magical spinach!"
As she skipped back to her grandmother's house, the orange sunset painted the sky, and Lily knew that the best adventures are the ones you share with others — even tiny frog princes and little brothers who lose their bears.
