The Magic Pool Ball

Lily pressed her nose against the window, watching the rain pour down. Her brand new baseball sat on her dresser, untouched all summer. No field meant no game. No game meant no fun.

"Come outside!" called her best friend, Mateo, splashing through puddles. "You won't believe this!"

Lily grabbed her yellow raincoat and followed Mateo to the park. But instead of the soggy baseball field, he led her to the old swimming pool—normally empty and dull. Today, something magical shimmered beneath the water.

"Throw your baseball in," Mateo whispered.

Lily hesitated. The pool had been dry for months. But as she tossed her ball, it didn't sink. Instead, it BOUNCED. And kept bouncing. Higher and higher, glowing with rainbow colors.

Suddenly, the empty pool filled—not with water, but with sparkling blue mist. Up from the depths popped tiny creatures with fuzzy blue fur and big friendly eyes. They caught the glowing baseball and tossed it back and forth, giggling like bells.

"We're the Splash-Sprites!" one chirped. "Your baseball woke us from our winter sleep! Want to play?"

Lily and Mateo dove into the magical mist, discovering they could float and fly. The sprites taught them cloud-baseball, where hits made stars twinkle and catches earned wishes. They played until the sun set, turning the mist to gold.

"Will you be back tomorrow?" the littlest sprite asked.

"Every day," Lily promised.

As the first stars appeared, the mist faded. Lily's baseball rested on the pool's edge—still glowing faintly, now warm to the touch.

"Nobody will believe us," Mateo said, grinning.

Lily squeezed her friend's hand. "That's okay. Some magic is just for friends."

All summer long, they returned to the pool. But when autumn came and the pool filled with real water, the sprites disappeared. Still, Lily kept that special baseball safe. Sometimes, late at night, it would glow just enough to remind her: friendship is the greatest magic of all, and the best adventures are waiting in the most unexpected places.
